The Greater Manchester Democratic Socialist Alliance (GMDSA) has a discussion group called gmdsa, which I, Steve Wallis, think will be of interest to potential GMDSA members, and you may also be interested in the following others, also at groups.yahoo.com:

• SADemocraticPlatform – the group of the Socialist Alliance Democracy Platform (SADP), which will hopefully lead the campaign for the formation of a new socialist alliance on a national basis (preferably called the Democratic Socialist Alliance) after the wrecking and dissolution of the old Socialist Alliance (SA) by the Socialist Workers Party (SWP). However, that has been put off until a conference in the Autumn. I have asked for a national SADP speaker to attend the GMDSA launch meeting.
• IndieSA – a group originally intended primarily for independent socialists in the SA, but which also welcomed anti-sectarians in socialist organisations. When SA branches were wound up by the SA leadership (mainly in the SWP), this group was opened up to socialists outside the SA.
• revolutionary-platform-of-democratic-socialist-alliance – a group of mine promoting the idea of a Revolutionary Platform, for which the only requirement for membership will be being a revolutionary socialist. This is my vision for the future leadership of the GMDSA and a Democratic Socialist Alliance on a national basis, in order to prevent reformists and infiltrators from conspiratorial organisations on the side of big business from playing too big an influence in the alliance.
• revolutionary-platform-of-the-ssp – a similar group that I have set up for the Scottish Socialist Party (SSP), but supporters as well as members of the SSP are welcome to join.

There are also quite a lot of newsgroups (most easily accessed via Google, by clicking on “Groups” or going to groups.google.com). I have discovered a lot of censorship on newsgroups devoted to subjects other than politics (particularly music because so many people access them), but messages sent to left-wing newsgroups always seem to go through unhindered and you don’t need to join to send a message. I particularly recommend the following:

• alt.politics.socialism.
• alt.politics.socialism.trotsky – where revolutionary socialists (mainly but not limited to Trotskyists) tend to hang out.
• alt.politics.radical-left.
